In an online award ceremony last week, Team AOTH were absolutely humbled and over the moon to be announced as the National Winners for Wales at the Voluntary Arts Epic Awards 2020. We had no expectation when we were shortlisted for these awards – we were happy just to take part and be included among such nationwide auspicious company… and then we won and to be honest, I think we’re still processing!

Diolch yn fawr iawn @voluntary_arts – but this one is very much for Newport.

Obviously, we’re right in the midst of arrangements for #AOTH2020 – it’s given us a HUGE boost at a time when moral is pretty low in the arts. However, with some of the benefits being a greater profile (locally, nationally and within the third sector i.e. voluntary / not-for-profit sector) and encourages us to look ahead… not year to year but establish a 5 year plan and think about training and development as a project! Expect more updates regarding this in 2021.

Mewn seremoni wobrwyo ar-lein yr wythnos diwethaf, roedd Tîm AOTH yn hollol wylaidd a dros y lleuad i gael eu cyhoeddi fel Enillwyr Cenedlaethol Cymru yng Ngwobrau Epig y Celfyddydau Gwirfoddol 2020. Nid oedd gennym unrhyw ddisgwyliad pan oeddem ar restr fer y gwobrau hyn – roeddem yn hapus yn unig i gymryd rhan a chael ein cynnwys ymhlith cwmni mor addawol ledled y wlad … ac yna fe wnaethon ni ennill ac i fod yn onest, rwy’n credu ein bod ni’n dal i brosesu!

Diolch yn fawr iawn @voluntary_arts – ond mae hwn yn fawr i Casnewydd.

Yn amlwg, rydyn ni reit yng nghanol y trefniadau ar gyfer #AOTH2020 – mae wedi rhoi hwb enfawr i ni ar adeg pan mae moesol yn eithaf isel yn y celfyddydau. Fodd bynnag, gyda rhai o’r buddion yn fwy proffil (yn lleol, yn genedlaethol ac o fewn y trydydd sector hy sector gwirfoddol / dielw) ac yn ein hannog i edrych ymlaen … nid o flwyddyn i flwyddyn ond sefydlu cynllun 5 mlynedd a meddyliwch am hyfforddi a datblygu fel prosiect! Disgwylwch fwy o ddiweddariadau ynglŷn â hyn yn 2021.

ABOUT VOLUNTARY ARTS & EPIC AWARDS 2020

Voluntary Arts supports, celebrates and promotes creative cultural activity. It works across the UK and Republic of Ireland to help create an environment where participation in everyday creativity can flourish.

The Epic Awards, now in their tenth year, are the premier awards for community and volunteer-led creative projects based in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, shining a light on their achievements and aiming to inspire others to get involved and participate in creative activities.

The Awards are run by Voluntary Arts, who promote participation in creative, cultural activities. Many of the 63,000 voluntary arts groups eligible in the UK and Republic of Ireland have put themselves forward for the Awards. The judging panels in each of the nations selected a total of 29 groups to be shortlisted for this year’s awards.

The winner and runner-up for each national award were announced on 22 October via a celebratory online gathering. The event welcomed invited guests from other major charities and arts organisations as well as representatives of Arts Council England, Arts Council Wales and Creative Scotland. The 2020 winners will each be receiving a winner’s pack by post, including a special framed certificate as well as a cash prize. Winning or being shortlisted for an Epic Award has also had very positive effects for voluntary arts groups in the past, as many of them find their profile raised locally and nationally and that it has helped with fundraising efforts.
