#artsnewydd – Promoting the arts in Newport02 Jul 2020, Posted by #artsnewydd, Community, Inspiration, Newport, Out & About, Social Media, Wales in
#artsnewydd came from the Newport CAN (Newport Community Artists Network) partnership with the desire to promote, profile and increase accessibility to the city’s creative community. The hashtag #artsnewydd was already being used by members in posts and tags on social media to link events they were involved with a city under one identity. It belongs not to one person, but to everyone who uses it . You need no big marketing budget to take part and holds HUGE potential to break down barriers to participation with the arts across the city (i.e. perceptual barriers, access to venues and facilities, location or transport, safety, cost and value). Plus it groups content and makes posts more discoverable on social media platforms and Internet search engines via the hashtag, allowing people outside of Newport to access this information too.

After comments made during a recent #artsnewydd twitter hour, we organised a virtual Zoom check-in for TUESDAY 30th JUNE to bring people together at a time of keeping apart. Lockdown came in to effect so quickly and the guidelines from UK Government and Senedd Cymru change on an daily basis, it’s been difficult for individuals, venues, organisations and businesses to respond and recover from the consequences of COVID-19. This meeting was arranged to try give our community insight in to other peoples experiences, but also find ways of overcoming this situation TOGETHER as a group.
There are still a lot of unknowns re: arts & COVID-19 at the moment across the sector, but boy is there a lot of fight! For those who couldn’t make it – you can download the PDF minutes from the meeting here: 20200630 Artsnewydd Zoom
#artsnewydd happens every Wednesday 7-8pm on Twitter – bringing people together to share what they’re up to / from / with the arts in Newport.
If you would like to join in, use #artsnewydd in your Twitter post and we’ll re-share your content to our network.
If you would like to take part in #artsnewydd but don’t have a Twitter account, email email@example.com with your content (image & text no more than 280 characters) BEFORE Wednesday each week so we can do our best to post content on your behalf.
As ever, take care and stay safe – K xxx
