Another November has been and gone, and despite all the peculiarities of 2020, it was with great pride that Newport came together again to participate in Art On The Hill. Even from the first lock down in March, for the team of volunteers behind the arts trail, the question was never if the festival was going to happen this year, but how… nor was AOTH was spared it’s share of trials and tribulations either!

With a curatorial decision to avoid indoor exhibitions or activities, events moved online, on to social media or pre-recorded via Zoom as well as displays in windows of venues and domestic residencies. This year 26 venues took part, covering the largest area of NP20 yet – sharing together, 2 metres apart.

Mae mis Tachwedd arall wedi bod ac wedi mynd, ac er gwaethaf holl hynodion 2020, gyda balchder mawr y daeth Casnewydd ynghyd i gymryd rhan yn Celf Ar Y Bryn. Hyd yn oed o’r clo cyntaf i lawr ym mis Mawrth, i’r tîm o wirfoddolwyr y tu ôl i’r llwybr celfyddydau, nid oedd y cwestiwn byth a oedd yr ŵyl yn mynd i ddigwydd eleni, ond sut… ac na chafodd AOTH ei arbed ei chyfran o dreialon a gorthrymderau chwaith!

Gyda phenderfyniad curadurol i osgoi arddangosfeydd neu weithgareddau dan do, symudodd digwyddiadau ar-lein, ymlaen i’r cyfryngau cymdeithasol neu eu recordio ymlaen llaw trwy Zoom yn ogystal ag arddangosfeydd mewn ffenestri lleoliadau a phreswyliadau domestig. Eleni cymerodd 26 o leoliadau ran, gan gwmpasu’r ardal fwyaf o NP20 eto – gan rannu gyda’i gilydd, 2 fetr ar wahân.

Thank you to everyone who stuck to the rules (wore face masks, washed hands and stayed 2m apart). The overwhelming feedback has been that people were pleased to be apart of something and that AOTH went ahead with support from The Cwtsh on Stow Hill despite COVID-19. We aren’t sure how many people joined us over the weekend either on the trail or online, but we are grateful for the support the whole community has shown for the arts and for artists this year – it means *A LOT*. Huge thanks also to artist Ben Meredith who donated work as our Prize Draw artist, and congratulations to our winners Eleanor Wade and Nicky V (see more below).

Diolch i bawb a lynodd wrth y rheolau (gwisgo masgiau wyneb, golchi dwylo ac aros 2m ar wahân). Yr adborth ysgubol yw bod pobl yn falch o fod ar wahân i rywbeth a bod AOTH wedi bwrw ymlaen gyda chefnogaeth The Cwtsh ar Stow Hill er gwaethaf COVID-19. Nid ydym yn siŵr faint o bobl a ymunodd â ni dros y penwythnos naill ai ar y llwybr neu ar-lein, ond rydym yn ddiolchgar am y gefnogaeth y mae’r gymuned gyfan wedi’i dangos i’r celfyddydau ac i artistiaid eleni – mae’n golygu *LOT *. Diolch enfawr hefyd i’r artist Ben Meredith a roddodd waith fel ein hartistiaid Gwobr, a llongyfarchiadau i’n henillwyr Eleanor Wade a Nicky V (gweler mwy isod).

I gael gwybodaeth am bob un o’r artistiaid a gymerodd ran yn y llwybr celf eleni a manylion am sut y gallwch weld eu gwaith ar-lein, ewch i’r blog: https://celfarybrynnp20.home.blog/artistiaid-artists/

Team AOTH would like to say a huge thank you to South Wales Argus reporters Leah Powell and Jonathan Hill for their coverage of #AOTH2020 – we are really pleased they took the time to come out, follow the trail and speak with the artists involved, as well as our hosts and venues. Read their articles below.

Hoffai Tîm AOTH ddiolch yn fawr iawn i ohebwyr Argus De Cymru, Leah Powell a Jonathan Hill am eu darllediadau o #AOTH2020 – rydym yn falch iawn eu bod wedi cymryd yr amser i ddod allan, dilyn y llwybr a siarad â’r artistiaid dan sylw, fel yn ogystal â’n gwesteion a’n lleoliadau.
