Newport’s Chartist Mural

Newport’s Chartist Mural

So recently, as hopefully a lot of people have been reading about in the news, Newport public art schemes took an almighty punch recently with the destruction of the Chartist Mural in John Frost Square on Thursday 3rd October 2013.

There’s much debate as to the legality, motivation and ramifications of these actions by Newport City Council. No doubt we shall see the knock on effects of this event for many years to come in the now strained relations between the town, it’s artists and it’s residents. Let us hope now that the destruction of such a unique and culturally significant artwork has not been for nothing.

On my own part, I was approached by local journalist Jane Oriel to use some of my images for her article on the Big Issue website. Published on 8th October 2013, follow the link to have a look:

I shall be uploading a selection of images soon onto the People & Places page of this website – check back soon to see them on display.
